Though it may be alarming, a rodent infestation doesn’t have to mean a long-term problem. With help from Attic Project’s rodent proofing professionals, you can safely remove uninvited critters and prevent future invasions.

Seattle, with its diverse ecosystem, hosts a range of rodents, from small mice to larger rats. These animals often seek shelter and food in human homes. Common intruders in Seattle homes include the House Mouse, Roof Rat, Norway Rat, and Deer Mouse.

These rodents find even the tiniest gaps to enter homes, contaminating food, damaging insulation, and carrying parasites. Preventing these pests is key, and it starts with professional rodent-proofing to seal potential entry points and remove attractions around the exterior of your home.

The best defense is prevention through professional rodent-proofing. By sealing entry points and removing interior and exterior attractions, you can deter these pests from entering your home. Our service identifies and blocks their access routes, removing any food, water, or shelter.

During your inspection, our service technician may recommend pairing insulation with a vapor barrier to give your attic additional protection from water and rodents.

Common Rodents and Pests in Seattle

Pest The House Mouse

Much smaller than rats, with dusty gray coats and white underbellies. Due to their small size, House Mice can squeeze through gaps as narrow as a pencil.

Notable for their black or dark brown fur and long scaly tails, Roof Rats are nocturnal and prefer cooler climates. They usually live off seeds, nuts, fruits, and insects.

These rats are bulkier and lighter brown in color, with shorter tails compared to their bodies. They are known for their capsule-shaped excrement, differing from the pointed ends of Roof Rat droppings.

Recognizable by their large, dark eyes and brown fur. They are common in rural settings and are primary carriers of Hantavirus in Washington, a potentially deadly illness.

Common Rodents and Pests in Seattle

Telltale Signs of Rodents

To determine if pests are present in your Seattle home, look for these signs:

  • Droppings around the home.
  • Sounds like scratching, scurrying, or gnawing from walls or ceilings.
  • Damage to insulation, wires, wood, or drywall.
  • Musky odors indicating rodent presence.
  • Actual sightings of mice, rats, or other pests.

Rodents Exploit Small Openings, Including:

  • Holes along the roofline, attic vents, or exterior walls.
  • Gaps around utility lines or where wires enter the home.
  • Foundation cracks or door gaps. Mice can fit through very small, dime-sized holes.
  • Open pet doors, chimneys, or damaged vent screens.

Washington’s Climate and Why It Attracts Pests

Seattle’s cooler, damp climate makes attics appealing to pests seeking:

  • Nesting: Insulation provides a hidden spot for rodents to nest and breed.
  • Foraging: Rodents gnaw on stored items and wiring insulation.
  • Hiding: These spaces offer quiet and seclusion from predators.
  • Shelter: Attics offer protection from the elements like rain and wind and stable temperatures.

Dangers of Rodent Infestations in Seattle Homes

Rodent infestations pose risks to Seattle homes, including:

  • Structural damage from chewing on wood, drywall, insulation, and wiring.
  • Health hazards from droppings containing allergens, bacteria, and viruses.
  • Potential bites or stings and asthma or allergy triggers.
  • Food contamination and disease transmission, including hantavirus and salmonellosis.

SEATTLE RODENT PROOFING REVIEWS

From start to finish, the guys performed as they said they would. Really great attitudes, even when working longer than expected to finish the job. Fair price, exceptional service.

We have a 1924 house, until recently, without any attic insulation. R38 insulation made an immediate, noticeable difference. And since the guys left, our heater has not turned on one time! Already saving money. Highly recommend this team.

After years of dealing with rodent issues and sinking money into monthly monitoring plans that never truly solved the problem, working with Attic Projects has been a breath of fresh air. From the start, Dan Howard—our Project Manager—stood out for his thorough inspection, clear communication, and honest evaluation of what’s necessary versus what’s just ‘nice to have.’ He backed everything up with detailed photos and documentation, which made it easy to understand the scope. The work includes full insulation removal, deep cleaning, deodorizing, and reinstalling insulation in both the attic and crawl space. What really sets this apart is the 10-year warranty—finally, a long-term solution instead of endless monthly fees with no real resolution. Dan’s professionalism, punctuality, and responsiveness have made the process smooth, and he’s been flexible with pricing options without compromising transparency. Whether you’re just starting to explore options or already deep into planning, I’d definitely recommend Attic Projects based on the clarity, integrity, and customer service I’ve experienced so far.

Can’t beat the 10 year warranty. Vince Lee, the Project Manager, was the first person I worked with from the company. He guided me through all of the prospective steps. He made me feel at ease with the procedure and also made suggestions of what I could do around my house to prevent rodents from getting into my attic. He gave me the assurance that he would help with any questions that I had about what was going on with the project. He is very amiable. I appreciate that. The entire crew is courteous, patient and knowledgeable. They took care to protect my home while removing and installing insulation.

The Attic Projects team did an attic clean up, rodent proofing, air sealing (to house) and insulation in 2022. They have a 10 year warranty vs rodents. In 2025 After hearing rat activity in the attic I went up and saw evidence of rat burrows and many droppings. Their team came out without within a few days, confirmed the recurrence, sealed up a few potential points of entry and set more traps. After continuing the catch multiple rats over extended period of time it was determined the best course of action was to remove the blown in insulation and search for all points of entry and seal those up. While no company wants to redo a job they handled it very professionally. Simply, Its covered under our warranty and we will take care of it. They sent out a team removed all insulation, came back multiple times over a few weeks sealing up potential points of entry. After no more rats were caught for 2 weeks we schedule the insulation installation. The team arrived exactly at 8am, took measures to minimize contamination to the house (i.e plastic barriers), very professional and thorough. They did not solicit this review. I highly recommend this team. Peace of mind that they guarantee their work and you are dealing with professionals. I have recommended them to my neighbors and others.
